What is it?
Performance Score is a Trella Health metric that you can use for a quick evaluation of a provider. We base the score on 4 other critical metrics. This score is a national comparison. When a hospital has more than one NPI, we use the primary NPI, generally with the taxonomy General Acute Care Hospital.
- Readmission Rate
- Hospitalization Rate
- Adjusted Total Patient Cost
- Mortality rate
Calculation
For each of the four metrics we take the percentile score and multiply by .25. (If you want, you can think, "divide by four." We then add the four results to get the final Performance Score.
The reporting periods for the metrics we use in this calculation are as follows:
- Readmission Rate uses a 2 year reporting period
- Hospitalization Rate uses a 2 year reporting period
- Adjusted Total Patient Cost uses a one year reporting period
- Mortality rate uses a on year reporting period
For more information on any of these metrics, please look at the documentation for each metric.
Example:
(Readmission Percentile * .25) + (Hospitalization Percentile * .25) + (TPC Percentile * .25) + (Mortality Percentile * .25) = Performance Score
Metric | Percentile | Multiply by .25 |
Readmission Rate | 60th | 15 |
Hospitalization Rate | 48th | 12 |
Total Patient Cost | 56th | 14 |
Mortality Rate | 36th | 9 |
Performance Score (Total of four results) | 50 |
Not all hospitals have all metrics required to calculate this score. If a hospital only has three of these metrics available, we multiply the percentiles by .33 and add them together. If a hospital only has 2 available metrics, we do not calculate a score, and the score for that hospital will be zero.
Where are Performance Scores?
You will find Performance Scores on the Analyze page for a hospital.
